22 outstanding students named to Agri-Techsan organization
Officials in Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources have announced its 2009-2010 slate of Agri-Techsans, the college's award-winning organization of student recruiters. Comprised of select undergraduates from every department in the college, this year's Agri-Techsans are a diverse group.
Some are native Texans; others are not. Many live in rural, agricultural communities while still others hail from metropolitan, non-agricultural backgrounds. This year's Agri-Techsans include:"Elizabeth Bertrand, an agricultural and applied economics major from Floydada."Kelli Chapman, an agricultural communications major from Waxahachie."Kelsey Fletcher, an agricultural education/ag communications major from San Antonio."Victoria Gartman, an environmental conservation of natural resources major from Austin."Cassie Graydon, an agricultural communications major from Austin."Holly Hunnicutt, an agricultural communications major from Aubrey."Abigail Long, an animal science major from Boerne."Jett Mason, an agricultural education major from Brownfield."Katie Rose McCullough, an animal science major from Castle Rock, Colo."Markus Miller, an animal science major from Abernathy."Madeline Moore, an animal science major from Cove, Ore."Eric Odom, an agricultural and applied economics major from Dimmitt."Madelon Osborne, an agricultural communications major from Menard."Krystina Parker, an environmental conservation of natural resources major from Kingwood."Dan Patterson, an agricultural communications major from Farwell."Kendra Pond, an animal science major from Wolfforth."Jordan Shaw, a landscape architecture major from Scottsville."Shanna Ward, an animal science major from Coffeyville, Kans."Suzanne Watson, an agricultural communications major from Alice."Trevor White, an agricultural and applied economics major from Tahoka."Annie Wolf, an agribusiness major from Byers."Loni Woolley, an animal science major from Grandview.
Rachel Bobbitt, the college's coordinator of student services, noted that though the organization's diversity serves both Texas Tech and prospective students equally well, all Agri-Techsans have at least one thing in common "" their enthusiasm for the university and the college's programs.
"We only look for exceptional students who are enthusiastic about Texas Tech and CASNR, who will take an active and responsible part in our organization, and can maintain their grades while devoting time and lots of energy to promoting CASNR," she said.
"Agri-Techsans travel to high school career days, job fairs, class presentations, and club meetings throughout the region to inform prospective students about the university's admissions requirements, financial aid opportunities, and what it is like to be a member of the Red Raider family," Bobbitt notes. "Prospective applicants get as much information as possible straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak," she said.
Selected each spring for the following academic year, Agri-Techsans must be nominated by either a faculty member or a current Agri-Techsan, maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and be a full-time student in Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Bobbitt indicates that the selection process is rigorous, including nomination and application phases followed by an appearance before a selection committee comprised of the college's student services center staff and graduating Agri-Techsans.
"Only those students with an interest in and enthusiasm for the promotion of CASNR, its programs, and its students are selected," she said.
Earlier this year, the Agri-Techsans earned national recognition at the National Agriculture Ambassadors Conference in Huntsville, where they were named winners of the organization's "Excellence in Recruitment and Retention Award" on Jan. 6.
"I have no doubt that the 2009-2010 Agri-Techsans will perform just as well, if not better, than their predecessors," Bobbitt said. "I look forward to working with each of them over the next year."
