Spring's Upswing: Yard program underway by Tech Turf Club
It's almost springtime, and across enclaves of the South Plains hearts and minds are turning to lawn care. In preparation for producing a hardy carpet of green grass here in the Lubbock area, members of Texas Tech University's Turf Club are completing their spring yard scalping program.
The annual fundraising project for the student organization at Tech was limited to the first 25 individuals who scheduled service, said Gerald Henry, an assistant professor of turfgrass science with Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science. Cost was $50 for less than 0.25 acres (10,890 square-ft) and $75+ for more than 0.25 acre.
The deadline to sign up was March 12, and the actual service was done from March 16 to 19. Henry noted that requests for additional services were considered.
