Convocation: Texas Tech honors three outstanding CASNR faculty
Texas Tech College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources faculty members Scott Burris, Sandra Rideout-Hanzak and Reynaldo Patino received awards for their quality teaching and research during the university's annual Faculty Honors Convocation on Tuesday (Apr. 20) at the Human Sciences Building.
"Texas Tech is fortunate to have an outstanding faculty," said Bob Smith, provost. "I'm honored to present these awards to some of our best and brightest."
Scott Burris, an assistant professor with Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications, received a President's Excellence in Teaching Award. A specialist in agricultural education, he is the current advisor for Texas Tech chapter of Collegiate FFA. Burris earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary agriculture from Texas Tech, and master's and doctorate degrees in agricultural education from the University of Missouri.
Sandra Rideout-Hanzak, an assistant professor with the Department of Natural Resources Management, was tapped for a Texas Tech Alumni Association New Faculty Award. Specializing in fire ecology, her research focus is on prescribed fire and wildland fire effects on fuels, vegetation and wildlife. She is also studying fire effects on southwest succulents, and season of burning on rangeland plants. Her doctorate is from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Reynaldo Patino, a research professor with the Department of Natural Resources Management, was presented an Outstanding Researcher Award. An expert in fisheries, he has been with the Texas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit and the natural resources management department since 1989. His research interests broadly include fisheries science, aquaculture, aquatic ecophysiology and conservation biology. His doctorate is from Oregon State University.
Among the other awards presented at the afternoon ceremony were the President's Book Award given to outstanding faculty authors, as well as the Barnie E. Rushing Jr. Faculty Distinguished Research Award, Faculty Distinguished Leadership Award and the Hemphill Wells New Professor Excellence in Teaching Award.
