Lopez, McCulloch receive outstanding thesis and dissertation awards
Two Texas Tech College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources graduate students have been recognized for the outstanding quality of work displayed in their master's thesis and doctoral dissertation by the university's graduate school.
Jose Lopez from Carazo, Nicaragua, was presented a $750 award in the social sciences category for his dissertation titled, "The Mexican Meat Market: An Econometric Analysis of Demand Properties and Trade." He completed his academic work in Tech's Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, and is currently an assistant professor of agribusiness at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Abigail McCulloch from Blanco, a small community some 30 miles north of San Antonio, received a $500 award in the social sciences category for her master's thesis titled, "A Pre-assessment for Developing a Food Safety Training Program for Self Service Food Bars in Grocery Stores." She represented Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications.
Tech officials noted that Helen Jones Foundation funding contributed to make the eight awards presented this year possible. Students were nominated for the honors by their faculty members. Other graduate students selected for awards were from Tech's colleges of human sciences, education, arts and sciences, and engineering.
