An outstanding agricultural communications graduate from Texas Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications has been awarded one of this year's '20 Under 40' awards from the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals of Greater Lubbock.

Lindsay Kennedy, who graduated from the university in 2006 with a master's degree in agricultural communications, will be presented the honor at a special banquet at 6:30 p.m. May 31 at Lubbock's Scottish Rite building.

"The '20 Under 40' awards give us a chance to recognize the best and brightest young professionals in our community," said Eddie McBride, president of the chamber. One of the goals of the program is to honor outstanding individuals under the age of 40 who exemplify leadership in their careers, while actively participating in the community, he said.

Currently, Kennedy serves as the external affairs director for the National Sorghum Producers and the external affairs director for the United Sorghum Checkoff Program. The National Sorghum Producers represents sorghum producers in legislative and regulatory matters, in addition to providing targeted educational materials.

Other recipients with Texas Tech ties include: Justin Clark, director of human resources and deputy chief of staff; Suzanne Cox, director of development for the School of Law; Catherine Langford, an associate professor of communication studies; William Murray, a programmer/analyst for University College; Keith Patrick, Community Manager - Development with the American Cancer Society and a master's student in Tech's Depaerment of Agricultural Education and Communications; Russell Thomasson, chief of staff and special counsel to the chancellor; and Tyler Young, a section supervisor for human resources.
