Commencement: Spring semester ends on high note for CASNR graduates
More than 3,600 Texas Tech students, including 161 from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, received diplomas at the university's commencement ceremonies Saturday (May 19) at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock.
During the event outstanding students carried banners representing their respective colleges. Laurie Strebeck, an agricultural communications major from Throckmorton, represented CASNR. Administrators selected the banner bearers based on all-around achievement.
University officials noted that the highest ranking May graduates for CASNR included Strebeck, as well as John Duff, an agribusiness major from Levelland, Jerra McMath, an animal science major from Estancia, NM; and Loni Woolley, an animal science major from Grandview.

Jerry Rawls, 68, a Texas Tech mechanical engineering graduate (1967) and the namesake for Tech's College of Business, was the commencement speaker. He is president and CEO of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Finisar Corp., a technology leader for fiber optic subsystems and network performance test systems. The Houston native is also longtime supporter and generous donor to the university, particularly the College of Business Administration.
