Nine faculty and staff members were honored for service and support of Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources on Thursday (Aug. 24) during a special evening ceremony at the Department of Animal and Food Sciences livestock arena.

The 2017 CASNR award recipients included:

• Teaching Award: Darren Hudson, Professor and Larry Combest Chair, Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics
• Research Award: Venugopal Mendu, Assistant Professor of Cell Wall Biology, Department of Plant and Soil Science
• Junior Faculty Award: Scott Longing, Assistant Professor of Entomology, Department of Plant and Soil Science
• Service/Outreach Award: Brad Johnson, Gordon W. Davis Regent's Chair in Meat and Muscle Biology, Department of Animal and Food Sciences
• Student Advising Award: Courtney Gibson, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Education and Communications
• Instructor Award: Lindsay Kennedy, Instructor, Department of Agricultural Education & Communications
• International Impact Award: David Weindorf, Associate Dean for Research, CASNR Dean's Office
• Staff Award: Pam Urnosky, Administrative Assistant, CASNR Dean's Office
• Research Staff Award: Andrea Krieg, Research Aide, Department of Animal and Food Sciences

Earlier in the day, CASNR faculty participated in a retreat at the university's McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center that focused on faculty advising, student retention, academic integrity and handling student issues. An overview of the college was provided by CASNR Interim Dean Steven Fraze.
