Texas Tech's Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources continued a dozen years of enrollment growth with 3,298 students signing up for classes, as of the 20th day of class on Friday (Sept. 20), according to university officials. “Davis College continues to grow in student populations and programs, and our focus has always been ensuring that students have an outstanding learning experience,” said Robert Cox, Davis College Associate Dean for Academic & Student Programs. ”We are proud of the many achievements by our students and continue to grow our support for student success.”

This year’s upward trajectory represents a longtime trend in enrollment – up from 1,785 in 2010 to 3,298 this semester, a jump of 1,513 students. Davis College’s positive tally is the direct result of the momentum of faculty, staff and members of the Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center, who are creating new opportunities for students, Cox said.

Other positive student-related indicators are Davis College’s graduation and consistently high retention rates. According to the latest Texas Tech Fact Book report, the college’s one-year retention rate was 84.6% and a six-year or less graduation rate was 72.1%.

The 2024 Fall enrollment numbers for individual Davis College departments are:

  • Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics: 541 (Undergrad: 475 / Grad: 66)
  • Department of Agricultural Education & Communications: 388 (Undergrad: 285 / Grad: 103)
  • Department of Animal & Food Sciences: 1,469 (Undergrad: 1,374 / Grad: 95)
  • Department of Landscape Architecture: 114 (Undergrad: 103 / Grad: 11)
  • Natural Resources Management: 401 (Undergrad: 338 / Grad: 63)
  • Department of Plant & Soil Science: 352 (Undergrad: 184 / Grad: 168)
  • Department of Veterinary Sciences: 31 (Grad: 31)

Meanwhile, the university announced an enrollment number of 40,969. As the university continues to grow, it has enhanced student support resources that provide the connected and personalized support that is part of the Texas Tech experience. For the academic year just completed, this is reflected in several benchmarks that signify the university prioritizing student success.

Texas Tech awarded a record 9,994 degrees for the 2024 academic year and achieved record four and six-year graduation rates of 50% and 66%, respectively. Particularly noteworthy is a 20% increase in the four-year graduation rate over the past five years.

“The makeup of our student body tells us we’re responding to changing demographics by strategically reaching a broader range of students, including non-traditional learners and those who left college before completing a degree,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. “We continue to place students first and provide an educational experience that ensures they have the skills to succeed in their chosen careers.”
