Nineteen undergraduate students from Texas Tech's Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resource are set to attend the Agriculture Future of Americas Leaders Conference from Nov. 7-10 in Kansas City, Missouri. The AFA is a national program that provides personal and professional development programs to college students and young professionals in agriculture.
“This conference is the bridge between college and career for undergraduate students studying food and agriculture,” said Sandra Addo, Davis Colleges Program Manager for Graduate Student Recruitment. The four-track program is designed to provide students with different personal and professional development opportunities based on where they are in their collegiate experience, she said.
Davis College students scheduled to attend the program are:
- Kasey Dunn, a junior agricultural education major from Watauga
- Campbell Bednar, a junior agriculture and applied economics major from Frisco
- Natalie Brennan, a junior agricultural communications major Penobscot, Maine
- Brooklyn Buckingham, a junior animal science major from Wheeler
- Parker Galvan, a senior plant & soil sciences/civil engineering major from Weslaco
- Macie Goodson, a senior agricultural Economics major from New Braunfels
- Allie Herring, a senior agricultural communications/ag business major from Franklin
- Kaylee Hopkins, a sophomore agricultural education major from Aledo
- Jaraden Kearby, a senior agricultural business/ag economics major from San Angelo
- Blake Mills, a senior agricultural leadership major from Center Point
- Lance Nicholas, a junior agricultural education major from Brookshire
- Maximus Palacio, a sophomore ag economics from San Antonio
- Ashlynn Rogers, a junior agricultural education major from Brock
- Berlin Saxton, a junior agricultural education major from Merced, California
- Elizabeth Gaus-Schmidt, a sophomore animal science major from Tomball
- Emily Smith, a junior agricultural communications major from Lumberton
- Emily Speiss, a junior agricultural education major from Industry
- Sophee Dever, a junior, agricultural education major from Arlington
- Rachel Claxton, a sophomore, agricultural leadership major from North Richland Hills
Addo, who is based in Davis College's Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center, is part of a group of professionals in the Davis College Dean's Office charged with recruiting and retaining the best students for the college. She is responsible for coordinating graduate recruitment of all students for Davis College through a targeted effort, as well as creating and distributing information and printed literature emphasizing Davis Colleges programs, centers and facilities.
The Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center is named for long-time member of the Department of Plant and Soil Science's emeritus faculty Bill Bennett. Bennett joined the Texas Tech faculty in 1968 and was a trailblazer in raising money for scholarships to increase recruitment of students, in addition to spearheading creation of the college's Ambassadors for Agriculture and Agri-Techsans programs.
