Born in Amarillo and raised in Vernon, Texas, Chad Smith is an accomplished technology executive with a strong background in retail technology solutions, data analytics, and a passion for community engagement. A graduate of Texas Tech University, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the Whitacre College of Engineering in 2001.

Currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer for Truno Retail Technology Solutions, Chad plays a pivotal role in driving innovation and operational excellence within the company. Truno is a recognized leader in integrated technology solutions, serving retailers across the United States. His career has also been marked by key leadership and executive roles with prominent organizations, including United Supermarkets, Lucky's Market (majority owned by Kroger), Alamosa PCS, and Palm Harbor Homes.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Chad has actively contributed to the advancement of retail technology through participation in product advisory committees for retail-focused software. He has also shared his expertise as a presenter at various industry events and conferences.

Committed to giving back to his alma mater, Chad has been deeply involved with Texas Tech University. Since 2015, he has served on the Computer Science External Advisory Board, holding the position of Board Chairman from 2017 to 2020. Additionally, he has been a member of the Edward E. Whitacre College of Engineering Dean's Council from 2019 to 2025. His engagement extends to the Rawls College of Business, where he has supported students and faculty with data research for doctoral presentations and has served as an ex-officio member of dissertation committees for these projects.

In recognition of his dedication and contributions, Chad has received multiple prestigious awards, including induction to the Texas Tech Whitacre College of Engineering Computer Science Academy in 2014, Outstanding Service Award from the Rawls College of Business in 2015, and the Texas Tech Whitacre College of Engineering Young Distinguished Engineer of the Year in 2016.

Beyond his professional and academic commitments, Chad is involved in community service in Lubbock. His volunteer efforts span a variety of organizations, including United Way, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Habitat for Humanity, Legacy Play Village, 4th on Broadway, Special Olympics, Ragin' Cajun, and Meals on Wheels. His dedication to serving others reflects his strong commitment to making a positive impact both professionally and personally.

Chad is also a proud father of three children. Malloree, a junior student-athlete studying Early Childhood Education at Angelo State University; Brenna, a freshman studying Pre-Nursing at Texas Tech; and Brice, an aspiring engineer currently attending Lubbock-Cooper Liberty High School. Coming from a family of Red Raiders, Chad is part of a proud tradition that includes over a dozen family members who have attended Texas Tech University.
