Mack Atcheson, born July 28, 1920, in Graham, Texas, received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech in 1942. After four years service in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he became an engineer with the research and development department of Elliott Company, Jeanette, Pennsylvania, where his assignment was the design mid–construction of a demonstration scale oxygen plant using a new process, of equipment performance tests of compressors and centrifugal expanders, the erection of test facilities for gas turbines, and the creating process design of cryogenic plants.
In 1949, Mr. Atcheson became a process engineer for El Paso Natural Gas Company, El Paso, Texas. In 1953 he became the company’s chief design engineer and in 1956 chief engineer. After two years as assistant operating manager, he became manager in 1961, executive engineer in 1964 and vice president of engineering and construction in 1965, with responsibility for planning, designing and engineering, construction and technical service of all plants.
In 1966, he became a member of the El Paso Products Company’s board of directors and in 1972 Director of Engineering and Constructing, Synfuels Division of El Paso Natural Gas Company.
In 1972, he became vice president of Fuel Conversion Company, an affiliate of El Paso Natural Gas Company, organized to own and operate coal gasification plants.
