Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University is ranked No. 37 out of 109 in Best Online Master's in Engineering Programs

U.S. News & World Report released its 2024 Best Online Programs rankings Feb. 7th, and Texas Tech University made a large leap into the top 50 programs nationwide for 2024, signaling the continued growth of the university's burgeoning online education initiative, Texas Tech Online.

Texas Tech ranked as the No. 22 school in the U.S. for online MBA programs, an 11-spot leap from a year ago, while the online engineering program jumped 20 spots to No. 37, matching its mark from 2022.

U.S. News & World Report evaluates the distance-learning programs separately from the institution to provide a clear picture of the services and programs available specifically to distance learners. Data is gathered by a statistical survey and analyzed based on student excellence, services and technologies, expert opinion, student engagement, admissions selectivity and faculty credentials and training.

Liz Beaty, Director of Distance Learning at the Edward E. Whitacre College of Engineering believes the jump could help with future recruitment.

"We moved up twenty positions in our ranking this year. In addition to availability, affordability, and accessibility to outstanding engineering programs, prospective students often use the U.S. News and World Report ranking as one of their criteria when they are deciding in which university to enroll.  Nearly all our graduate programs are already offered through distance learning. While we have a few opportunities to add more programs, my goal this year is to continue to update the educational technology provided in our twenty-three distance learning recording capable classrooms, expand our distance learning course offerings, and promote lifelong learning and advancement to professional engineers. "

The worldwide reach to the Whitacre College of Engineering's online programs makes Texas Tech's From Here, It's Possible motto even more relevant." It is a very appropriate mantra for the Whitacre College of Engineering online graduate program. Red Raider Engineers are worldwide! We currently have enrolled distance learners who are working professionals living in locations such as: British Columbia; Germany; and India; San Diego, California, Boston, Massachusetts; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Jacksonville, Florida, and, of course, all over the great state of Texas. "

Lastly, when asked what she would say to any future students who would be interested in Texas Tech and Online Learning she said, " Although the graduate program distance learning classes are available asynchronously, they are held each semester concurrently with the face-to-face students. The lecture-capture capabilities offer online learners the benefit of having the same experienced professors, curriculum, projects, and assignments as the students attending on campus in Lubbock."
