Dr. Bu: A Global Journey in Engineering and Logistics, from Xinjiang to PhD Success

Dr. Bu will be starting his position this fall as Assistant Professor within the IMSE department.

Dr. Bu received his PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 2024. His research focuses consist of Economic Analysis, Intermodal Transportation, Decision Models & Decision Analysis, Freight Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and Date Science with Machine Learning. 

Originally from Shehezi City, Xinjiang, China, Dr. Bu navigated his way to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication Engineering from the Beijing Jiaotong University, and then his Master of Science of Engineering Business management from Warick University in 2014.

His dissertation, titled “Feasibility Assessment and Container Traffic Forecasting of Inland Waterway Container on Barge Transportation,” earned him his PhD in the summer of 2024. His accolades consist of coming in 1st Place in 2023 for the Jack Buffington maritime Transportation Research and Education Center Outstanding Student Poster, among various other honors.

Dr. Bu is not only passionate about his engineering career, but also about cooking. He grows plants, specifically herbs like basil or cilantro. This not only serves as a hobby, but also enhances his culinary endeavors. Dr. Bu also states that, “I also go fishing occasionally, finding it both relaxing and rewarding.”
