Texas Tech Ph.D. Student Jiachen Liu Receives Paul Whitfield Horn Distinguished Professors Graduate Achievement Award
Jiachen Liu, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering in the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech University, has been awarded the Paul Whitfield Horn Distinguished Professors Graduate Achievement Award. This honor is given to only three students across the entire university, recognizing their outstanding research contributions and academic excellence.
Jiachens groundbreaking work focuses on developing innovative strategies for reliable inkjet-based bioprinting of biomimetic soft tissues, significantly advancing the field of 3D bioprinting. His research has led to 11 peer-reviewed journal publications, including six first-author papers in leading scientific journals. Additionally, he pioneered a bioink-circulation method to prevent cell sedimentation and aggregation—an essential innovation that improves the reliability and accuracy of 3D bioprinting.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Horn Distinguished Professors Graduate Achievement Award. This recognition is also a testament to the dedication and support of my mentors and colleagues who have inspired and challenged me throughout my journey,” said Jiachen. “It reinforces my commitment to advancing research in biomanufacturing and mentoring the next generation of engineers. I look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of innovation and collaboration in this field.”
Jiachens contributions extend beyond publications, as he holds one international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent, with a U.S. patent application currently in progress. Under the mentorship of associate professor Changxue Xu, Jiachen has demonstrated exceptional dedication to advancing bioprinting technology and making a lasting impact in biomedical engineering.
“I am incredibly proud of Jiachen for receiving the prestigious award. As a mentor, it is deeply fulfilling to see my students grow, achieve excellence and be recognized for their contributions,” said associate professor Changxue Xu. “Guiding and supporting them on their academic journey is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.”
Please join us in congratulating Jiachen Liu on this outstanding accomplishment!
