
Andrew Vanderpool is the recipient of the 2025 Orval Leroy Lewis Staff Award
The Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering is proud to announce the recipient of the 2025 Orval Leroy Lewis Staff Award: Andrew Vanderpool, Chief Academic Advisor for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas Tech University.
Selected from a highly competitive pool of nominees, Vanderpool was recognized for his unwavering commitment to student success, collaborative leadership, and outstanding service to the university community.
Since joining the department in 2023, Vanderpool has made a transformative impact on the undergraduate advising experience for more than 200 students in the Computer Engineering program.
Beyond his advising duties, he teaches student success courses, manages course scheduling, and oversees the departments newsletter. His open-door policy and personalized approach to advising have earned him widespread respect and admiration from students and colleagues alike.
“Andrew is far more than just an advisor whom students consult with twice a year to schedule courses,” one student wrote. “He makes real connections and wants to see his students grow.”
Vanderpools tireless efforts to connect students with internship opportunities, support their career goals, and help them navigate day-to-day challenges reflect the spirit of the Orval Leroy Lewis Award—a distinction reserved for staff who demonstrate exceptional service and leadership within the college.
