Texas Tech Alumni Kent Freier and Zachary Torma named Engineers of the Year by the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers
The New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers (NMSPE) has named Kent Freier the 2026 Engineer of the Year and Zachary Torma the 2026 Young Engineer of the Year. Both are engineers at Molzen Corbin and alumni of the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech University.

Freier, a graduate of Texas Techs Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering, has spent 48 years developing New Mexicos transportation, aviation and flood infrastructure. With more than 30 years of leadership in airfield engineering, Freier has managed improvement programs at nearly every major airport in the state. His work has focused on helping communities secure funding and plan infrastructure to enhance safety and economic growth.

Torma, also a graduate of the Texas Tech civil engineering program, joined Molzen Corbin in 2018. He specializes in airfield pavement design, drainage analysis and site development. In addition to his work on aviation projects, Torma contributes to roadway and site improvement projects across New Mexico. He is an active member of the New Mexico Airport Managers Association and is recognized by his peers for his technical expertise in public infrastructure.
The NMSPE awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the engineering profession and their communities through technical excellence and public service.
