11.20.2020: SIBS Lab disseminates community report to the Center for Collegiate Recovery Communities at Texas Tech University

sibs community report

The SIBS Lab disseminated a community report to the Center for Collegiate Recovery Communities (CCRC) at Texas Tech University. The report was based on findings from the Social Relations and Addiction Recovery Study, a study designed and executed by Jaycie Martinez, a recent undergraduate at TTU in HDFS, and Michael Galvan, a master's graduate student in HDFS. Dr. Rogers supported all research activities.

The report describes trends in how CCRC resources contributed to the well-being of its students since Spring 2019. In addition, findings highlighted the unique and salient roles that parents, friends, and even siblings can play in supporting student well-being, particularly during times of stress, like the COVID-19 pandemic. Associations between social relations, stress, coping, and well-being are also documented. The report ends with implications to potentially integrate more positive family resources to college students, especially those in recovery.

For more information about this report, please contact Dr. Rogers at christy.rogers@ttu.edu.

Note: We would like to thank the CCRC and the College of Human Sciences for their support in funding this study. In particular, we appreciate Dr. Thomas Kimball's role in facilitating this study as the director of the CCRC. And last, we want to thank the students who took their time to participate in our research.
