Chris Browning, Ph.D.

Chris Browning, Ph.D., was named the new Interim Director for the School of Financial Planning at Texas Tech. Former Interim Director, Mitzi Lauderdale, J.D., Ph.D., CFP®, will now serve in the Office of the Provost as Vice Provost for Academic Innovation.

Browning has served at Texas Tech since 2013 as an assistant professor and undergraduate program director for Personal Financial Planning since 2018. Prior to Texas Tech, Browning was the department chair at East Central University from 2011 to 2013 and previously taught at West Texas A&M University.

Browning has received numerous accolades including PFPA Instructor of the Year, Texas Tech Alumni Association New Faculty Award, and Academy of Financial Services Best Paper award among others. His research interests focus on consumer behavior, financial decision-making, retirement planning, and policy. Outside of the typical classroom, Browning has played a leadership role in the school's Financial Planning Academy, developed by Texas Tech University and funded by Charles Schwab Foundation, a summer program that offers rising high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors education, and training in the core areas of personal financial management.
