Learning Coach

What does a Learning Coach do?

With TTU K-12's virtual learning environment, you play an active and important role in your child's education. As a Learning Coach, you will have the best of two worlds. You will be able to provide your child with a level of support and guidance that no one else can, and you'll get to watch them learn, progress and succeed. Your level of involvement will vary based on your student's grade and level of independence. TTU K-12 will provide you and your student with more flexibility than you would find in a traditional school; however, we still have specific expectations for student behavior and participation. As your child's Learning Coach, you will:

  • Provide academic support, motivation, and guidance throughout the school year
  • Ensure your child is on track with assignments and coursework
  • Communicate with teachers, counselors, and staff
  • Ensure attendance requirements are being met

If you or your child's legal guardian are unable to fill this role, you can choose a family member, friend, or another trusted adult to be the Learning Coach.

Learning Coach Contract

  • I understand that I am responsible for reviewing my and my student's information in the LMS, and I will notify the school immediately of any errors, omissions, or changes.
  • I will take responsibility for ensuring that my student completes the assigned coursework and verifying they have been submitted properly.
  • I agree that I am responsible for providing all necessary computer equipment (including hardware, software, printer, and internet connection) that my student will need while enrolled and TTU K-12 is not responsible for providing any computer equipment to my student or household.
  • I agree that my computer equipment meets all minimum requirements as specified in the “Technology” section of the website and in the School Handbook. In addition, I acknowledge that if I have more than one student enrolled in TTU K-12, I will provide sufficient computer equipment for all enrolled students in my household to be able to complete their coursework.
  • I agree that my student is bound by the rules and other provisions set out in the School Handbook as well as the Terms of Use, Acceptable Use, and Privacy Policy, which are included on the website and may be updated from time to time.
  • I understand that to successfully complete their lessons and fully benefit from the online school experience, students enrolled in TTU K-12 will need some assistance from a parent/legal guardian or designated representative. The amount of assistance will vary by grade level and each student's capabilities to be self-directed and to comprehend the materials. I therefore agree to adhere to the following supervision parameters for students by grade level:

— Elementary school assistance level: Substantial. The parent/legal guardian or designated representative will need to provide substantial support to the student throughout the school day and should be with the student physically all day. Example: Spend 4 to 6 hours per day working with your student—at this early stage, it is important to be very hands-on and available, Help your young learner understand what to do each day and how to do it, Gather and organize course materials as needed, administer course lessons.

— Middle school assistance level: Moderate. The parent/legal guardian or designated representative should be available to provide assistance to the student as needed throughout the day. The parent should be in the same general location all day but may not need to be with the student at all times, depending on the student.

— High school assistance level: Minimal. Students are expected to perform their schoolwork independently in high school. However, a parent/legal guardian or designated representative must still monitor progress and ensure that the student completes required coursework. This adult is also expected to be available for conferences. While students may not need adult supervision during the school day, they must still be in a safe and secure environment
