TTU K-12 German Instructor Attends Goethe Institute Teacher Workshop
By Leslie Cranford, Media Relations Coordinator
TTU K-12 is proud to announce that Jeremy Hogan, a German instructor in the foreign languages curriculum, was chosen to attend an elite teacher workshop at the Goethe Institute, the largest German institute in the world.
Hogan also is in his fourth year as an adjunct professor at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, currently teaching German 1301 online and in-person at the main campus. In addition, he teaches German 1-5IB (International Baccalaureate) at Lubbock High School. All totaled, Hogan teaches about 120 students.
"I sent those qualifications and my student count to the Goethe Institute, and they selected me to attend a two-day teacher workshop for German in New York City in November," Hogan said. "Their scholarship covered the travel and lodging. This is a tremendous honor."
Hogan earned a Master's Degree in Languages and Cultures in 2014, in Texas Tech University's Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures.
"The weekend was amazing," Hogan said. "We worked on backwards design, the differences between input and support, what L2 learners bring into the classroom, learning objectives vs. performance vs. really knowing, and a plethora of other German things. There were 19 German teachers from as far away as Alaska."
Cari Moye, principal of Texas Tech High School, says this honor points out the quality of teachers in the TTU K-12 schools.
"We are so impressed with Jeremy for this honor, but not surprised," Moye said. "We go to great lengths to hire the best, most engaged and engaging teachers for our students."
