TTU K-12 Testing Coordinator Earns Awards at State Conference

By Leslie Cranford, Media Relations Coordinator

TTU K-12's testing coordinator, Pam Butler, recently presented at the Texas Assessment Conference in Austin in November. The conference is mainly for district and campus testing coordinators in Texas public school systems, and others such as principals.

She also earned the TSNAP Region 17 Recognition Award. TSNAP (Texas Statewide Network of Assessment Professionals) includes district testing coordinators and campus testing coordinators for all Texas public school districts.

Butler, along with El Paso ISD testing coordinator Brenda Booth, was invited to facilitate a discussion on "Best Practices for Getting the Precodes You Want."

"For our full-time TTU K-12 students who live in Texas, all of their required state assessments for graduation, STAAR EOC exams, are done in their local public schools according to the TEA testing calendar," Butler explained. "I work with district testing coordinators all over Texas to make sure that our students are registered and to make arrangements for their STAAR EOC exams to go as smoothly as possible, and also that we will receive the scores, etc. coded back to TTU K-12."

Christy Sassman, senior program manager for Texas STAAR Operations, ETS K12 Assessment Division, was grateful for their concise presentation on a difficult topic.

"I feel like the presentation was very helpful to districts and contained a lot of great information," Sassman said. "I am hopeful that those who were unable to attend will take our presentation and use the helpful information to make their precode lives less painful!"

Regarding Butler's award, every year, each TSNAP regional director selects one person from their regional organization for a recognition award and certificate to be presented during the annual TSNAP Luncheon at the Texas Assessment Conference.

Pam Brown, Region 17 TSNAP director, selected Butler for the annual award for "recognition of outstanding service to her colleagues in Region 17."

Butler said that in Texas, there are 20 Educational Region Service Centers, and each region has a local regional TSNAP organization. The local organization is the South Plains Association of Testing Specialists, or SPATS.
