Texas Tech University

Letter From the Superintendent

Dear TTU K-12 Community,

Aspects of TTU K-12 continue to evolve quickly. Just as the grounds of the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock are turning green with new life, our programs continue to grow and expand with new opportunities for our students. Five students made their way to Lubbock to participate in the inaugural induction of our National Honor Society (NHS) Chapter. A great thanks to Cari Moye, our high school principal; Brenda Shupe, academic advisor; and Veronica Stringer, academic administrative coordinator, for putting together a beautiful event.

The TTU K-12 faculty held their online teacher meeting in late February. Topics discussed included the expected rollout of projects slated for September 1. Those include:

  • an online proctoring service designed to provide greater flexibility to our students while maintaining test integrity (see related story).
  • a new grading policy putting equal emphasis on assessments and daily work.
  • a common look and feel for all of our online courses, meaning they will all have the same template, appropriate syllabi and other elements.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) offerings.

These new projects are the result of principal and student needs and the tremendous work of the curriculum department led by Dr. Lisa Leach.

Also discussed was the new teacher appraisal instrument designed to better address and compliment the instructional performance with our teachers. These are going to be used in addition to the regular appraisal instrument for transition purposes. Teacher placements as well as IT information were also covered.

The advisors and principals are working diligently to assure that all those on schedule to graduate this spring will do so. Did you know we have graduated 114 students already this academic year? All of this requires a team effort. Students willing to learn, qualified teachers facilitating that need and parents participating in the education of their children result in success for our students. To our students, "Work hard, and with that support, your dreams will be realized!"

Come see us,
