Sharon Andrew is a program manager for TTU K-12 and serves a leadership role when it comes to supplemental students. They are learners who attend their local schools but also take individual courses with TTU K-12.

As a leader for her supplemental team, Sharon is the go-to authority when it comes to resolving issues that these students, parents or counselors may have. As such, a large amount of her time is spent addressing inquiries via phone and e-mail. Additionally, Sharon coordinates with school districts all over the state of Texas that want to provide courses and Credit by Exams (CBEs) for their students who need credit recovery or advanced placement.

Sharon's journey with TTU K-12 began in 2006, but she was already familiar with eLearning years before.

"I took a course in 1994 through Outreach and Distant Education (ODE), which was what eLearning was at that time," she said. "With that certification, I was able to enjoy a great career for many years. In 2006 my husband was working as the construction inspector for the new building for ODE. I was ready for a new challenge, so I thought that because I had a wonderful experience and the department was expanding, I would like to be a part of helping someone else. After learning that ODE also had a K-12 division, I found a position that was perfect for me."

Among other aspects of her work, Sharon enjoys hearing the thrill and relief of concerned parents and counselors after learning that their child or student has completed their last course necessary for graduation.

"When a counselor or parent calls or emails to check on a student's grade and the student has passed, the joy and relief they have is so satisfying," she said. They say that the student had worked really hard and only needed this one course or CBE to graduate, move to the next grade or whatever their goal was, and it feels good to work in a place that can make a difference in a person's life."

Sharon has high praise for TTU K-12, but even higher hopes for what TTU K-12 can become.

"There are many students and parents who do not know about the different ways TTU K-12 might be able to help with their education needs," she said. "We need to be the solution for all school counselors to help their students meet their education needs. Whether it is one course or CBE, or a semester or year of courses due to a behavioral or health issue, TTU K-12 needs to be the education 911 for school counselors."
