Cyrus Mohsenin, a TTU K-12 fifth-grader, has earned first-place wins in three recent United States Chess Federation (USCF) tournaments, the latest in mid-February, called the BlitzKids Tournament.

Amir and Yaas Mohsenin, his parents, shared Cyrus's accomplishments with TTU K-12, along with words of commendation for Texas Tech University Elementary School.

"One aspect that we greatly appreciate as parents is the excellent flexibility," said Yaas, Cyrus's mom. "With this increased flexibility, Cyrus has been able to devote more time to chess training and tournaments. In addition, we appreciate the availability and responsive staff including Principal Oldham. We definitely recommend TTU K-12 to other parents interested in home school programs."

Yaas also shared that Cyrus recently passed a math exam at Kumon learning center, placing him in Kumon's gifted and talented group. Kumon learning centers provide after-school math and reading programs for preschool students through 12th grade.

Cyrus, who began attending Texas Tech Elementary School in first grade, says his favorite subjects are math and science, and that he wants to be a doctor later in life. His other interests include tennis and playing with his sister, one‑year‑old Lily.

His USCF rating has increased to 1539 this month due to his recent tournament results.

Congratulations, Cyrus, on your recent accomplishments, from TTU K‑12.
