Administrative Assistant Returns

For TTU K-12’s new administrative assistant Teresa McCumber, getting into the education field was personal.

“My son was in the special education program from 4 years old until 6th grade, then he was placed in the 504- program,” McCumber explained. “I worked as an instructional assistant in special education for 11 years and loved it, and in education as a whole for 26 years.”

McCumber is actually back at TTU K-12, having started at what was then TTUISD in 1999. McCumber moved away, but now has returned to Lubbock and found her way back to Texas Tech’s fully online K-12 program.

“I worked for TTU K-12 when the program was first established and loved the environment, its energy and its purpose,” she said.

As the academic administrative coordinator for TTU K-12, McCumber processes all travel vouchers for the administrators and handles the hiring process for all future candidates who are trying to gain employment within the program. She also assists wherever else she is needed.

Even though she has only been back with TTU K-12 a few months, McCumber says that so far, her favorite thing is working with the staff.

“Everyone here is genuinely invested in the success of the TTU K-12 program,” she said. “I hope that TTU K-12 continues to thrive and grow and become the highest-ranked online education program there is!”

Having been in the education field in so many areas for so long, McCumber says her best advice to students is, “Study hard, study smart.”
