Finishing Touches Being Added to May Commencement
By Leslie Cranford, section manager

Diplomas, programs and seat cards are being printed. Headcounts and catering menus are being finalized. Balloons, marquee letters, table décor and more are being ordered.
The final touches are coming together as Texas Tech K-12 hosts its annual on-site, in-person commencement for the Class of 2025 at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion May 16 on the Texas Tech campus.
Cari Moye, acting superintendent of Texas Tech K-12, said having the commencement on campus brings together a community of students and families who have shared their educational journey with entire groups of teachers and other students they have not met.

“We look forward to meeting them in person and celebrating all theyve achieved,” Moye said. “We as administrators and educators hope students will be able to attend the ceremony, as it allows school leaders to truly celebrate the students hard work and accomplishments.”
The festivities are punctuated with the anticipated turning of the tassel and mortar board toss, a reception, photo opportunities and a visit from the universitys mascot, Raider Red.

Students complete graduation requirements throughout the academic year, and those who opt to attend the ceremony represent their class when they cross the stage to receive their diplomas. In 2024, a record 42 students and their families attended the event. Since the inaugural ceremony in 1998, Texas Tech High School has graduated nearly 5,600 students from all over the world.
Qualifying seniors and their families should have already been in touch with their advisors. RSVPs and headcounts are underway; bios and photos of students attending should be submitted for the program by May 2. For details, visit the graduation preparation web page.
More than 40 students and their families attended the 2024 commencement ceremony.
