Texas Tech K-12 Goes Back to School with Dyess Air Force Base
By Leslie Cranford, Lead Storyteller
School-aged children and their families were talking excitedly and strolling from one booth to another as they gathered information and materials in preparation for another school year.
The buzz was an indication of the successful turnout at Dyess Air Force Bases Annual Back-to-School Backpack Brigade held Aug. 8 in the Dyess Fitness Center in Abilene, Texas.

Each year, the event provides a meaningful opportunity for military families to connect with local educational resources before sending their children back to class. Parents meet school personnel and ask questions to better understand what they can expect in the new academic year—fostering stronger relationships and open communication between families and schools.
An estimated 300-400 families attended the Backpack Brigade, and around a third of them made a stop at the Texas Tech K-12 booth.

Academic advisor Brittany Perez and program manager Diane Patrick staffed the booth, highlighting the schools online offerings and distributing information on how the self-paced program can assist military families with their childrens educational needs.
Perez says because the curriculum is portable, families who are deployed or move frequently have a seamless experience with Texas Tech K-12.
“Wherever you go, Texas Tech K-12 goes too—bringing a world-class education to your child,” Perez said, smiling confidently.
