Spelling-Handwriting
Spelling-Handwriting
Each week you will have a Word List that matches the phonics skill you are working on for the week. You will be tested at the end of the week to see if you learned the spelling patterns with a Spelling Test on Day 5.
Day 2 will continue to focus on words with short o, u or e sounds. Be sure the student practices handwriting for the letters Cc, Dd, Ee, Oo.
Note: You will use the same Week 2 teaching slides, slide notes, and Spelling Handouts you downloaded on Day 1.
ACTIVITIES:
- Review the Week 2 teaching slides: Spelling-Handwriting (1.2) PowerPoint.
- On the Phonics worksheet, Consonants; Short o, u, e, page 17 , write two words to complete each sentence.
- Handwriting: Have the student practice handwriting with another copy of Printables: Manuscript Cc, Dd, Ee, Oo.
- Check to be sure that children are gripping the pencil correctly.
- Model: Remind children that they have been reviewing how to write lowercase letters. Briefly model how to write lowercase c, d, e, and o. Have children describe what they notice about the letters. (The letters o, c, d, and e are formed with backward circles; o and c look very similar to their uppercase letter partners.)
- Start right! Explain to children that starting points for writing letters vary. To write o, c, and d, they should start just below the middle line. To write e, they should start between the middle and the bottom lines. Point out that for children to write letters correctly from memory, they have to remember where to begin each letter.

- Save the Handwriting pages. You will choose the best set of Handwriting pages from Days 1-3 to submit for grading on Day 3.
