The Foundational Skills learning activities focus on a mixture of learning high-frequency words, phonological awareness, and phonics. This is a non-graded learning activity, but it is important to review the material before completing the daily lesson.

To prepare for the lesson:

• Download the Week 2, Day 4 teaching slides: Foundational Skills (1.2) Day 4 PowerPoint.
• You will find detailed instructions to assist with daily teaching slides in the notes section of the PowerPoint; download the Week 2, Day 4 slide notes for reference.
• You will use the same Week 2 Practice Handouts you downloaded on Day 1.

Now, go through the daily teaching slides for Day 4 with your student.

SLIDE ACTIVITIES

• Part 1: On slide 3, High-Frequency Words, play What Am I Thinking? with your student, giving clues about each word until the student guesses it.
  
  
• Part 2: For Phonological Awareness, slides 5-7, let’s play with the sounds in words!

• Slides 8-14: Review the CVC syllable pattern, blending letter sounds to make longer words.
  
  
• Slide 15: Read the words in each line, then read complete sentences.
  
  
• Slide 16: For additional practice, build and blend words together using the words provided. You may also want to assign Phonics Review, page 21 for independent work.
