You will submit this assignment using the Text Submission box that appears when you click on the Write Submission button in the assignment submission section. To avoid timing out the system, it is strongly suggested that you complete this assignment in a word processor (such as MS Word, OpenOffice.org, MS WordPad, etc.) first and then copy and paste the completed assignment into the textbox. When ready, click the Submit button to submit your assignment for grading.
Please post a brief description of yourself. Include any information that you feel your instructor might find interesting or useful as you work through this course.
Section 1.1: Discussion Assignment
This assignment has two parts. Read the directions carefully and complete both parts.
You are enrolled in this English course because it is a course which is required to graduate. Why do you think English is a required course? What do you expect to get out of this course?
Directions
- Write a 200-word response to the above questions and post it in the discussion forum. The first sentence should be a topic sentence, explaining your overall position. Write at least five more sentences and provide evidence from books, movies, music, or personal experiences to support your topic sentence. Post your paragraph in the discussion forum.
- After you post your first response, stay and write a 100-word response to another student's post. Please remember to be kind with your responses, and remember that each student is entitled to his or her own personal opinion.
Assignment 1.5 Activity: Reciprocal Pronouns

Write sentences using reciprocal pronouns. Before you submit your work, be sure to check for the following:
- Do you have three (3) sentences?
- Have you used both each other and one another in a sentence?
- Is the number of your subject clear? (Will the reader know how many people or things are in the subject of the sentence?)
- Have you checked your sentence for capitalization and punctuation errors?
Assignment 1.7 Upload: Hamburger Paragraph Worksheet
Follow the instructions in Section 1.7: Writing a Paragraph. Before you submit your paragraph, be sure to check for the following:
- Do you have a clear topic sentence?
- Do you have four to five supporting sentences that provide details about your topic?
- Have you used a variety of sentence types? Be sure you have used each type of sentence at least once.
- Do you have a concluding sentence that gives closure to your paragraph?
- Does your paragraph have a logical flow that your reader can follow?
- Have you read your paragraph out loud to check for errors and refine the flow of your ideas?
- Have you checked for proper end punctuation in your sentences?
- Have you checked to make sure you have used commas and semicolons correctly?
When you save your document, use the following format as the name of your file:

Upload your file using the following instructions.
- Click on the Browse My Computer button below.
- Navigate to where the file is saved on your computer.
- After you have identified the correct file, double click on the file (or select it and click the Open button).
- Your file name will be visible in the attached files section. You may hold it there as you make sure you got the right one, and that you are ready to submit.
