Competitive and Merit-Based Awards

TTU Study Abroad Competitive Scholarship The scholarship is competitive with approximately 50% of students who complete the application being awarded. TTU students who will study abroad on Texas Tech approved programs are eligible to apply.

Honors College Study Abroad Scholarship Students, who are in good standing with the Honors College, are eligible to apply after completion of their first two semesters of academic work at TTU, with at least one semester with Honors.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Scholarship: $1,000 supplement open to all TTU undergraduates with a 3.75+ GPA.

Golden Key | John Nelson Study Abroad Scholarship $3,000 and $3,500 awards; must be a member to apply

Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation $1,000 award. The Foundation supports undergraduate college/university Silver or Gold Award Girl Scouts who plan to study abroad, irrespective of major/minor. 

Go Overseas $500 award 

Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship $1,000 award

Good Colleges Study Abroad Award $2,000 award

Financial Need Awards

Gilman International Scholarship Up to $5,000 awards. Students must receive Pell grant to be eligible. Those studying a critical need language may also apply for an additional $3,000.

Fund for Education Abroad$1,250 – $10,000 awards. 

Freeman Asia $3,000 - $7000 awards. Provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

Language and Cultural Exchange Awards

Critical Language Scholarship* An intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.

Boren Language Scholarship* up to $12,500 long semesters; $8,000 summer program specifically for STEM majors; up to $25,000 for academic year. Funding available for undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Fulbright UK Summer Institute Programs*Three or four week summer programmes for US undergraduate students. Participants can explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK while experiencing higher education at a UK university.

Internships Abroad

DAAD Rise Germany Offers undergraduate students from North American, British and Irish universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions.
