Join us for the 2025 Engaged Scholarship Summit!

For the 7th year, the 2025 Engaged Scholarship Summit brings together Texas Tech faculty, staff, students, and community partners to explore the theory and practice of engaged scholarship in teaching, research, and creative activity. The event will highlight multi-disciplinary programs and initiatives designed to foster and sustain mutually beneficial partnerships between the university and external communities for lasting societal impact. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with engaged scholars from across the university while also connecting with potential community partners.

All activities will occur in the Helen DeVitt Jones Sculpture Court on the West side of the Museum of Texas Tech University. Free parking is available in the Sculpture Court parking lot located on the West side of the Museum.

Outreach & Engagement Resource Fair

Attendees will have the chance to discover valuable resources, pick up swag, learn about partnership opportunities, and explore programs, offices, and initiatives that support the development of engaged scholarship projects.

Engagement at TTU and Keynote Presentation: "The Engaged Scholarship Landscape in Higher Ed"

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Steve Abel

Dr. Steve Abel is a nationally recognized leader in engaged scholarship who has guided universities across the country in developing impactful engagement strategies. During his tenure at Purdue University, he helped establish the institution as a national model for integrating promotion, tenure, and engagement. Known for his dynamic and inspirational approach, Dr. Abel brings both a broad perspective and a strong connection to TTU’s engagement initiatives.

Afternoon Sessions
Building FIRST: Creating the Families in Ranching Succession Toolkit

Speaker: Anish Quenim, Director of the Alderson & Griffing Center for Family Business & Entrepreneurship at the Rawls College of Business
 
In collaboration with the National Ranching Heritage Center and the Office for Outreach & Engagement, Anish has launched the Families in Ranching Succession Toolkit (FIRST)—the nation’s first program dedicated to helping ranching families navigate succession planning.
 
FIRST equips families across the U.S. with practical tools, strategies, and support to sustain multigenerational ranch enterprises. By combining education, research, professional development, community partnerships, and wraparound services, the program illustrates how engagement can drive lasting societal impact while addressing one of rural America’s most urgent challenges: continuity in ranching.

Faculty and administrators will gain practical insights from the impressive progress Dr. Martin Camacho and Dr. Ivy Walz have achieved in a short time. Join them as they share how their college has advanced engagement initiatives and what lessons can be applied across the university.

Summit attendees are invited to join a moderated discussion with members of the Engaged Associate Deans’ Council, hosted by Outreach & Engagement staff. This session will highlight progress and lessons learned within Engaged Colleges, explore strategies for scaling engagement through FTEs, programming, and partnerships, and share visions for the future. Don’t miss this authentic conversation with Texas Tech leaders.

Resource Fair + Engaged Scholars & Practitioner Network (ESP Network) Social Event

Continue the conversations from the morning session—discover valuable resources, pick up swag, explore partnership opportunities, and connect with programs, offices, and initiatives that support engaged scholarship projects.

Then, join the ESP Network Social to connect with fellow members, exchange ideas and experiences, and spark new collaborations.
