Community-engaged Learning Affiliates

In Spring 2025, the Office of Outreach & Engagement launched a university-wide pilot to establish a process for developing and designating Community-engaged Learning (CeL) courses. CeL is a high-impact teaching practice that integrates real-world community engagement into coursework, deepening academic learning and fostering civic responsibility.

Nine faculty members were competitively selected for the inaugural pilot cohort. Participants receive support through five faculty development workshops and ongoing mentoring. A new cohort of faculty will be selected for the Spring 2026 term.

Community-engaged Learning (CeL) Affiliates are faculty, staff, or academic professionals who actively contribute to advancing Community-Engaged Learning at a university. These individuals may not be directly teaching CeL-designated courses, but support or enhance the integration of community engagement into academic experiences through roles such as:

  • Mentoring faculty or students involved in CeL
  • Collaborating with community partners
  • Supporting course design or assessment
  • Contributing to research or scholarship on engaged teaching
  • Participating in CeL programming, workshops, or initiatives
