Dr. Arquimedes Ruiz-Columbies (Archie) has over 40 years of experience in weather-related
topics including climatology, mesoscale forecast, and weather medication (cloud seeding).
He has been a Lecturer (formerly Instructor) with the Renewable Energy Program for
10+ years. He joined the program when it was called the Wind Energy Program and was
administered by University College; making him one of the founding members of the
program.
Dr. Ruiz-Columbie covers applied science and mathematics classes for Renewable Energy.
He teaches foundational courses that include fundamental topics in data analysis,
programming, elementary calculus, and statistics that are relevant to prepare students
to take junior or senior level Renewable Energy classes that are critical for their
professional training. Further, he leads the Renewable Energy Study Abroad Program
in Costa Rica during summer 1, which can fulfill the global component requirement
for students to graduate in the program.
Dr. Ruiz-Columbie is the member of the first Curriculum Development Committee in the
Renewable Energy program. He has advised the faculty group on devising strategies
to raise the standards of critical and analytical skills in renewable energy education.

Research Interests
Dr. Ruiz-Columbie is currently interested in developing an exhaustive characterization of nocturnal low-level jets which will lead to improvements of the nowcasting and very short-term forecasts of those phenomena, as well as how they impact the wind energy generation. He has held Professional Memberships in the following: American Geophysical Union. (November 1, 2008 - Present), Golden Key International Honor Society. (September 1, 2006 - Present), and Weather Modification Association. (April 1, 2001 - Present). Dr. Ruiz also actively co-authors peer reviewed publications maintaining a reasonable research output.
