Renewable Energy Minor

Program Overview

The Renewable Energy Minor requires 18 credit hours of undergraduate renewable energy courses, nine of which must be completed at either the Junior or Senior level. All courses must be approved by a TTU Renewable Energy Advisor and completed with a grade of "C" or higher in each course. Renewable energy is a multidisciplinary field and some courses may require a background in calculus and physics.

The Renewable Energy Minor at Texas Tech University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of renewable energy technologies and their applications. This minor requires 18 credit hours of undergraduate renewable energy courses, nine of which must be completed at either the junior or senior level. All courses must be approved by a TTU Renewable Energy Advisor and completed with a grade of "C" or higher in each course. The curriculum includes courses in energy policy, renewable energy systems, and energy storage technologies, equipping students with the technical skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to sustainable energy solutions. Given the multidisciplinary nature of renewable energy, some courses may require a background in calculus and physics. Students will learn about the design, implementation, and management of renewable energy systems, preparing them for careers in the rapidly growing renewable energy industry.  The Sustainability Minor at Texas Tech University educates students on sustainability principles across environmental, social, and economic systems. This 18-credit transdisciplinary minor is available to all majors and offers three focus areas: Sustainable Agriculture & Natural Resources, Sustainable Energy & Engineering, and Sustainability in Art, Architecture & Society. Students can also design a custom plan with an advisor. A minimum 2.75 GPA is required, with at least six upper-division hours and a grade of "C" or higher in each course. This minor equips students with the tools to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices in various fields. In addition, could we change the text under program overview to: Texas Tech University offers two dynamic minors within a renewable energy focus: the Renewable Energy Minor and the Sustainability Minor. These programs are designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to excel in the growing fields of renewable energy and sustainability. The Renewable Energy Minor focuses on the technical and practical aspects of renewable energy systems, while the Sustainability Minor provides a multidisciplinary approach to addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges. Both minors prepare students to become leaders in creating a sustainable future.
