Mutating Bacteria; Researchers refine antimicrobial resistance monitoring

While there’s not a lot of surefire scientific evidence to suggest that the judicious use of antibiotics in cattle contributes to antimicrobial resistance in humans, a team of Texas Tech animal science researchers are actively monitoring the situation in a far-reaching pilot study, keeping a sharp eye out for new strains of the virulent superbugs. AAEC’s John Walker wins ‘Outstanding Senior Award’ from WAEA

AAEC alum takes research, creative activity award at Texas A&M-Commerce

A doctoral graduate from Texas Tech’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics has won back-to-back annual honors from his peers at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Jose Lopez, a ‘04,’08 and ‘09 Tech alum and an assistant professor of agribusiness with the college’s Department of Agricultural Sciences, has been presented the “2012 Provost Award for Research & Creative Activity” for the College of Science, Engineering and Agriculture. Innovative FBRI cotton research highlights visit by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn visited Texas Tech’s Fiber & Biopolymer Research Institute on Thursday (April 12) to discuss cotton research with students and faculty. Cornyn and his wife, Sandy, learned about cutting-edge research taking place at the university to develop the next generation of cotton and new applications for cotton in the marketplace. (more…)

California native joins Tech’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics

With a long-standing research focus on the energy-water nexus and an aim to evaluate the links between scarce water resources and energy resources, Ryan Williams is now part of Texas Tech’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics. Texas Tech women’s rodeo team takes back-to-back regional championships

Texas Tech University’s women’s rodeo team, with another stellar week at the eighth of 10 Southwest Regional National Intercollegiate regular season rodeos, captured the women’s team championship and sewed up the Southwest regional team championship for the 2011-2012 school year. (more…)
