Earnest F. Gloyna, born in 1930 in Vernon, Texas, received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1946, and his M.S. in Sanitary Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin in 1949. John Hopkins University conferred upon him his Doctorate in Engineering in 1952.

Dr. Gloyna became an instructor at the University of Texas in 1946, assistant professor in 1949, associate professor in 1953, and professor of civil engineering in 1959.

He became dean of its College of Engineering in 1970 in which he holds the Joe L. King Professorship. He is director of its Center for Research in Water Resources. In addition to his teaching in the fields of his specialties, sanitary engineering and water resources, he lectures in the Postgraduate School of Medicine, Department of Industrial Medicine, the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston.

Dr. Gloyna has authored more than 150 articles and books which have been published in the time span since 1949. He is now or has been consultant to 50 major companies and agencies including the U.S. Public Health Service, the World Health Organization, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Senate’s Select Committee on National Water Resources.

Dr. Gloyna has maintained membership in a wide range of professional organizations including but not limited to National Academy of Engineering, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society for Engineering Education, and Tau Beta Pi. He has won numerous awards and is listed in American Men of Science, Who’s Who in the Southwest, Who’s Who in Atoms, Who’s Who in Engineering, Leaders in American Science, Dictionary of International Biography, Who’s Who in American Education, and World Who’s Who in Science.

Texas Tech is honored to name Earnest F. Gloyna: DISTINGUISHED ENGINEER.
