Academic Council
Charge:
The Academic Council shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Provost regarding academic related matters. The Council provides leadership in determining academic policies, procedures and priorities. The Council considers requests for needed degree and other programs and recommends course additions, changes and deletions. The Associate Deans Council, which is a subcommittee of the Academic Council, is composed of the Associate Deans. It also considers academic matters and has a special responsibility to consider programs which do not come through the traditional channels of the colleges.
Appointment:
The deans of each college/school will appoint their representatives; the President of the Student Government Association will appoint the student representative; the Faculty Senate will elect the Vice President of that body; the Staff Senate will appoint a representative; and the Provost will appoint Provost Office representatives. All appointed members serve at the pleasure of their supervisors.
Operating Procedures:
The Council shall develop its own operating procedures subject to the approval of the Provost. Copies of all minutes and reports are provided to all members of the Council and sent to the Provost and to those appointing representatives.
Voting:
Each area represented has one vote except Arts and Sciences which will have two. The Provost Office representatives shall not vote, except that the chair of the Academic Council should vote to break any tie. Members' substitutes are considered to carry a full voting proxy.
Chairperson:
The Council is chaired by the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.
