Steve and Jo Beth Fraze Endowed Scholarship

Steve Fraze

The Steve and Jo Beth Fraze Scholarship Endowment was established in 2016 by Dr. Steve Fraze and his wife Jo Beth. The funds are used to assist the Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center with student recruitment of perspective students in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman that have shown outstanding service by maintaining a high profile in a youth organization prior to attending college.

A native of Dora, New Mexico, Dr. Steve Fraze earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Lubbock Christian College in 1975. He went on to earn a teaching certificate in 1976 and a master's degree in 1978, both from Texas Tech, and then received his doctorate from Texas A&M University in 1986.

He served on the faculty in various roles at Texas A&M before joining the faculty in Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications in 1988.

In September of 2008, Dr. Fraze was appointed chair of the Department and subsequently was named the first holder of the Garrison Endowed Chair for Rural Youth Development in 2012. Under Dr. Fraze's leadership, the Department was rated the #1 Agricultural Communications Undergraduate Program in the nation, based on a study conducted at the University of Arkansas in 2015. After serving as department chair for eight years, Dr. Fraze was appointed Interim Dean of the College in August 2016 and served until Dr. William F. "Bill" Brown was appointed Dean in April 2018 whereupon he returned to his duties as Chair.
