Bill Baker

Bill Baker Scholarship Endowment was established by Mr. Bill Baker in 1986. These scholarships are to be awarded to students in the Departments of Agricultural and Applied Economics and Agricultural Education and Communications. Students must be US citizens.

LTC Bill W. Baker, Retired, was a graduate of Austin Peay State University with a bachelor's degree in history and English grammar and Michigan State University with a master's degree in education before attending Texas Tech University. He received a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas Tech University in 1977. Before attending school, Baker served in the United States Air Force through the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Upon graduation from Texas Tech University, he stayed in Lubbock and joined the teaching staff in the College of Engineering. He taught classes in Professional Ethics and Engineering Economics before being named Associated Dean of Admissions and then Assistant Dean of Engineering. In the 1970's he became the College Relations Executive and Manager for Corporate Giving for Halliburton where he stayed until his retirement in 1997. For a year after, he managed the Vee Bar Ranch before officially retiring in 1998.
