Frank M. Carter Memorial Dean's Scholar and Top-O-Texas Endowed Scholarship

Frank M. Carter Memorial Scholarship was established by Buster Carter, Pat Carter, and Phebe Carter Hetchcock in 1985. These scholarships are for entering freshmen and currently enrolled students in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources based on high school record and entrance examination scores; or on GPA. Awards will include a minimum $1,000 scholarship to a student from the Top-O-Texas Show area and one or more Gold Award Dean's Scholars Scholarship awards per year. The Gold Award is renewable with appropriate academic progress.

The original Frank M. Carter Agricultural Scholarship was established in 1953 by Mr. Frank M. Carter himself. He was the main benefactor of the Top-O-Texas Livestock Show and established the scholarship to be awarded to the top showman of the show who must be planning to attend Texas Tech University and major in agriculture. This is the oldest continuous scholarship in effect in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources. After Mr. Carter's death, his children decided to continue the Top-O-Texas Scholarship and establish the Frank M. Carter Memorial Dean's Scholar award. Frank ran the Carter ranch until his death and it was then passed down to his son, Buster. Buster passed away in 2002. Pat resides in Santa Fe, NM and Phebe resides in Sewanee, TN.
