Naasson K. and Florrie S. Dupre Scholarship

The Naasson K. and Florrie S. Dupre Scholarship Fund was established by the Dupre Trust at Prosperity Bank of Lubbock in 1988. These scholarships are for a deserving junior, senior or graduate student majoring in the field of agricultural sciences who are a resident of Texas.

Naasson Kelley (January 6, 1895 to October 25, 1967) and Florrie Louise Smith Dupre (August 23, 1896 to July 18, 1987) bred American Poland-China swine. They were pioneers in area education with a longtime interest in promoting agriculture.

Naasson's parents were Marcy and Salle Belle Dupre. Marcy Dupre moved to Texas in 1888 to pursue a career of teaching and school administration in Shelbyville, Henderson, Troup, and Center before becoming superintendent of schools in Lubbock in 1914. He was an early advocate of the University Interscholastic League and was an active proponent of placing high school football on a state-championship basis, a development that came officially in 1921. He served on the committee of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce that successfully worked for the establishment of Texas Technological College, now Texas Tech University.
