John and Karen Montandon Scholarship

The John and Karen Montandon Scholarship was created in 2021 by John and Karen Montandon to provide scholarships to high performing students enrolled in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources who have shown exceptional leadership ability in FFA, 4-H, or similar organizations and have financial need.

John Montandon was born and raised in Knox County, where his family grew cotton and wheat. He participated in FFA and other extracurricular activities at Knox City High School and always aspired to a career in an agriculture-related business. John graduated from high school in 1965 in Knox City, Texas, and then he went on to receive an undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics from Texas Tech University and an MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. While John was enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, he was accepted into an internship program with DEKALB AgResearch.

He met his wife, Karen, while in school in Knox City but didn't first ask her out until he was at Texas Tech University. They have now been married 42 years. After living in cities and towns all over the United States, John and Karen, a banker and real estate professional, settled near the beach in southern California, where they lived until 2017 before moving back to Austin, Texas
