J. W. Payton Scholarship

The J. W. Payton Scholarship was established by Thomas and Terry Payton in 2002. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students majoring in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources. Preference is given to students from Southland, Post and Garza County.

John W. Payton graduated from Texas Tech in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Production. As a student, he was a member of the Rodeo Association. He now owns and operates J. W. Payton Farms in Post, Texas.

His son, Thomas, graduated from Tech with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a master's in History. He is an assistant professor of social science at South Plains College.
