Bill and Oneta Dahl Endowed Scholarship

The Bill and Oneta Dahl Scholarship Endowment was established by family and friends of Bill and Oneta Dahl in 1992. The scholarship is awarded to students of any classification and majoring in Range and Wildlife Management.

Dr. Bill E. Dahl became a faculty member at Texas Tech University in 1967. He was highly regarded worldwide for his work on reseeding, grazing management, brush control and especially for his work on sand dune stabilization. Many of his students became leaders in the range management profession in the United States and Mexico.

Dr. Dahl and his wife Oneta had 3 children. A daughter Desirae and her spouse Mike Husband live in Anchorage, Alaska where he is a petroleum engineer. Mr. and Mrs. Husband have one daughter, Jennifer Emanuel, who has two sons and lives in Lubbock, Texas. The Dahl's son, Arlyn Craig and his wife Sherri live in Lubbock, Texas where he is a truck supervisor and night dispatcher for McLane High Plains, a food distribution company. They have two sons, Derrick who works for the WalMart distribution center in Plainview, Texas; and, Dylan who is a freshman in high school. Bill and Oneta's youngest daughter, Kelly Cristine and her husband Andre, a retired military officer, live in Wichita Falls, Texas where she is a mammography and radiology technician. They have a daughter, Bryana, who is a junior in high school and a son, Tyler, who is in the seventh grade.

Dr. Dahl died of cancer at age 62 on February 7, 1992. He was born October 24, 1929 near Cement, Oklahoma. He was a 1951 graduate of Oklahoma A&M with a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry and a 1953 graduate of Utah State University with a master's degree in range management. He received his doctorate degree in range management from the University of Idaho in 1966.

Dr. Dahl was widely recognized as an excellent teacher. He received many awards for teaching both within the university and from outside. However, the highest praise for his teaching came from his students. During the last months of Dr. Dahl's battle with cancer, he received almost 200 letters from former students. These letters contained many warm remembrances, not only of classes but also of Bill Dahl the friend.
