The Cecil I. Ayers Scholarship Fund was established by friends and colleagues of Cecil
Ayers in 1983. The scholarship is awarded to juniors and seniors based on financial
need.
Cecil Ayers graduated from Texas Tech University in 1936 and 1944 with a Bachelor
of Science and Master of Science in Soil Science, respectively. He began teaching
at Texas Tech University in 1942 and became the crops judging team coach. From 1947
to 1953, the team placed either first or second at the International and American
Royal competition under Ayers' coaching. By 1959, Ayers' teams had won the International
five times and the American Royal six times, giving Texas Tech University the crops
team the most first places in national competition of any of Tech's agricultural teams.
Cecil was married to Charlotte Wheat Ayers. All together they had eight children.
