Dale and Chery Swinburn

The Dale and Cheryl Swinburn Scholarship Endowment was established by Dale Swinburn in 1997. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students majoring in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.

Dale Swinburn received a Bachelor of Science in Soil Science from Texas Tech University in 1965. He was a member of Alpha Zeta and the Agronomy Club while attending Texas Tech. In 1999, he was honored by the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources as a Distinguished Alumnus, and in 2002, he received the Outstanding Agriculturalist Award from Davis College. Dale is also a member of the Davis College Advisory Board.

Dale is the owner of Dale Swinburn Farms, Inc. in Tulia, where he has been farming since 1966. He has been a Partner and Director for Windstar, Inc. since the late 1970's. Windstar's primary business interest is cotton ginning, and is composed of Tule Creek Gin, Lakeview Gin, Edcot Gin, Top of Texas Gin, and Dodd Cotton Gin. In 2003, Dale was honored with the Southwest Farm Press High Cotton Award. He has served as chairman of the Plains Cotton Growers Association variety improvement committee.

Mr. and Mrs. Swinburn reside in Tulia. They have three sons: Scot, who received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Texas Tech University in 1991, Chad, a former student in Agricultural Sciences, and Dane, who received his Bachelor of Sciences in Agricultural Sciences from Texas Tech University in 2001. Dale and Cheryl's yard was included on the 2005 Tulia Ladies' Chamber Annual Yard Tour.
