The Dr. Edward Zukauckas Scholarship was established by Eve Pilgrim in honor of Dr.
Edward Zukauckas in 2001. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduates and graduates
majoring in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.
Dr. Zukauckas passed away in 2010 at the age of 81. He was a long-time professor of
horticulture at Texas Tech University and a regular contributor of gardening articles
for The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal newspaper. Zukauckas taught horticulture courses
at Tech from 1952 to 1984 before retiring to follow interests in gems and minerals,
fishing and farming.
He and his wife Juanita had two sons, Bill and James. Bill graduated from Texas Tech
University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. James graduated from
Texas Tech University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance.
