Cotton conference spotlights top industry experts
The Fourth World Cotton Research Conference, which will be Sept. 10-14 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, has finalized its list of featured speakers during the morning plenary sessions of the meeting. The plenary presentations will focus on four areas of research and discourse in the Global Cotton Production/Textile Matrix. They include:
Monday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m.: Cotton Genomics and Biotechnology "" Nine experts from four countries will explain ongoing developments regarding this unprecedented technological revolution and explore the future that it portends for cotton.
Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m.: Strategic Challenges and Opportunities "" The program will cover the strategic issues of global extension outreach and technology transfer, rapid and unprecedented changes in the structure and conduct of international cotton markets, and the development of biofuels.
Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 8 a.m.: Keeping Cotton Competitive with Alternative Fibers "" Cotton exists within a universe of competing textile fibers. Seven international experts from companies and industry associations examine the nature and ongoing developments of interfiber competition.
Thursday, Sept. 13 at 8 a.m.: Strategic Management Issues "" Two of the most persistent and challenging issues facing cotton production managers are achieving and preserving fiber quality and preventing pesticide resistance within the context of available biotechnologies. These issues will be explained by two internationally respected experts from Australia.
