Torres participates in congressional internship program
Alex Torres, a junior at Texas Tech University, is interning this fall in Washington D.C. in the office of Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) as part of a College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Congressional Internship Program.
"I see this internship as an opportunity that will allow me to improve my community, state, and nation by becoming aware of how government works and how policy is made at the national level," Torres said.
More than 65 students have served as interns since the establishment of the program in 1998.
Torres, a conservation of natural resources major from Lubbock, is the daughter of Arturo and Carrie Torres. She has been named to both the Dean's List and the President's List and has been involved in the Range, Wildlife and Fisheries Club.
The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources' Government Internship Program gives students the opportunity to work in congressional and legislative offices both in Washington D.C. and Austin. In order to be eligible for the internship, students must have completed 30 hours of course work and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 at the time of the interview and internship.
